Challenge

The point-of-sale system shared the same consumer-grade network as the free guest WiFi. During peak hours, the network got saturated and payment terminals froze exactly when they were needed most, creating lines and frustrated customers.

Approach

We split the problem into two priorities: payment processing should never depend on how many people are on social media in the dining room, and guest WiFi still needs to be good. We designed the network segmentation and guaranteed bandwidth for each use case before installing anything.

Solution

We implemented separate VLANs for POS, kitchen/delivery operations, and guest WiFi, with reserved bandwidth for the payment system and automatic backup failover. All three locations were brought under the same centralized monitoring.

In the client's words

A frozen POS during the rush used to be our weekly nightmare. Since the change, we don't even remember that problem existed.
