The 6 GHz band isn't always the right answer
WiFi 6 (802.11ax) and WiFi 6E are, technically, the same standard — WiFi 6E simply extends WiFi 6 into the 6 GHz band, on top of the traditional 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The question clients actually ask isn't which one is "better" in the abstract, but which one solves the site's real problem.
In WiFiAtlas® projects we decide this with site-survey data, not vendor spec sheets: the 6 GHz band pays off where there's real spectrum saturation, and it's an unnecessary expense where there isn't.

- Office, boutique hotel, or retail space with varied client devices (laptops, phones of different ages). WiFi 6 — reliable coverage, full compatibility, better cost-to-benefit.
- Shared office building in a dense urban area, with dozens of neighboring WiFi networks visible from the site. WiFi 6E — the 6 GHz spectrum is practically free of that interference today.
- High-density space (auditorium, event hall) with recent corporate devices controlled by the client. WiFi 6E, as long as device compatibility is confirmed before investing.
- Site with a tight budget or a rollout across several locations at once. WiFi 6 — the ecosystem is more mature and cost per AP is significantly lower.
- A company that already invested in high-end WiFi 6E laptops and corporate devices and plans to scale the network. WiFi 6E — it puts the investment already made in compatible hardware to use.
In practice, most sites we survey today are well served by WiFi 6. WiFi 6E is justified when the site survey shows real spectrum saturation on 5 GHz — not as an automatic upgrade because it's "the new thing."
