Definition
An MSP (Managed Service Provider) is a company that operates and maintains a client's technology infrastructure on an ongoing basis — monitoring, maintenance, support, and updates — for a recurring fee, instead of billing per project or per incident.
Why it matters for your business
The MSP model aligns incentives: the provider profits from keeping everything running, not from fixing what breaks. For an SMB with no in-house IT team, it's the most efficient way to have professional infrastructure without building an internal department.
