Cookie Policy
Last updated: August 2026
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy complements our Privacy Policy (ditap.io/en/privacy) and explains, in verifiable detail, which cookies and local storage technologies ditap.io actually uses — not a generic list, but what actually runs on this site today.
While browsing the site, the consent panel asks before activating any cookie that isn't strictly necessary, in line with the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC, GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the Italian Garante's Provvedimento 231/2021.
2. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Beyond cookies, this site also uses browser local storage (`localStorage`), which serves an equivalent purpose: saving a preference on your device so we don't ask again on your next visit. For the purposes of this policy, we treat both technologies the same way.
We don't use cookies to sell you anything you didn't ask for, or to build a cross-site advertising profile without your consent.
3. Cookies and storage we actually use today
This table reflects what the site's code actually triggers — not an aspirational list:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| `NEXT_LOCALE` | First-party cookie | Remembers your language (es/en/it) so you're not redirected again on your next visit. | Strictly necessary | 1 year |
| `ditap-theme` | Local storage | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. | Strictly necessary | Until cleared |
| `ditap-cookie-consent-v1` | Local storage | Stores which cookie categories you accepted or rejected. | Strictly necessary | 180 days, then re-prompted |
| `_ga`, `_ga_*`, `_gid` | Third-party cookie (Google) | Measures traffic and aggregate site behavior (Google Analytics 4, ID G-LX5Z6C9RR6). | Analytics — requires your consent | Up to 14 months |
| Sentry session identifier | Technical, non-persistent storage | Application error diagnostics and site stability. Does not build an advertising profile. | Strictly necessary (technical legitimate interest) | Session duration |
"Marketing" category in the consent panel: the panel includes a marketing category (intended for tools like Meta Pixel or Google Ads) reserved for future use. We currently load no marketing script or third-party advertising cookie on the site — toggling that category on has no effect yet. If we add marketing tools in the future, we'll update this table before activating them.
4. Categories and legal basis
Strictly necessary. Do not require your consent (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR / technical legitimate interest, and the Art. 5(3) ePrivacy Directive exemption for cookies essential to deliver the service you requested). Without them, basic functions like language or theme won't persist between visits.
Analytics. Require your prior, explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Denied by default: we use Google Consent Mode v2, which starts with `analytics_storage: denied` until you choose "Accept all" or enable the "Analytics" category under "Customize".
Marketing. Same as analytics, requires prior consent. Currently has no practical effect since no marketing scripts are active (see Section 3).
5. Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (property G-LX5Z6C9RR6) to understand which pages are visited and improve the site. It only loads in production and only if you've given consent:
More detail on this provider as a sub-processor is in Section 4 of our Privacy Policy (ditap.io/en/privacy).
6. Technical monitoring (Sentry)
We use Sentry to detect application errors and measure stability (for example, if a page throws an exception in your browser). It's an engineering tool, not a marketing one: it doesn't build advertising profiles and isn't shared with advertisers.
Sentry may use short-lived technical storage in your browser to correlate events within the same session while your visit lasts. It's not a persistent cross-site tracking cookie. We treat it as strictly necessary based on our legitimate interest in service security and stability (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, Recital 49).
7. How to manage your preferences
You have full control, at any time:
Withdrawing consent doesn't affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
8. Updates to this policy
If we add a new tool that uses cookies or local storage — for example, if we activate marketing in the future — we'll update the table in Section 3 and the "Last updated" date before that tool starts running, and we'll ask for your consent again where required.
